Single Stage vs. Multi-Stage Tensioner
Hydraulic tensioning is the ideal method for tightening bolted connections. Hydraulic tensioning eliminates inaccuracies and helps achieve correct bolt loading in critical connections. At HTI, we’ve been building hydraulic tensioners and nuts since 1986.
Many hydraulic tensioning applications come with space constraints. Whether your constraint is radial or vertical, we have a solution that will fit.
Single Stage tensioners
Single Stage hydraulic tensioners are ideal for applications that are vertically limited. They provide a large amount of stroke in a vertically compact package.
Multi-stage tensioners
In a radially limited environment, the presence of other studs or other obstructions nearby limits the workable diameter of the hydraulic tensioner. By stacking multiple radially compact stages one over the other, and linking them with internal hydraulic coupling, the multiple stages of a multi stage hydraulic tensioner work together to provide more load than a single stage of the same size and provide.
Elliptical Tensioners
Another solution for radially limited environments, where space limitations only exist in one dimension, such as a wind turbine foundation stud where the mast is close to the stud, is an elliptically hydraulic tensioner. Elliptical hydraulic tensioners provide the large surface area required to generate the load on two elongated sides of the tensioner, providing low clearance on the other two sides.
Custom Engineered Tensioners Since 1986
HTI has been designing engineered solutions to your toughest bolt tensioning problems since 1986! You can choose from one of our standard catalog sizes above, or we can design a custom fixed tensioner for any application when a standard model won’t work. HTI tensioners can be designed for imperial or metric-sized studs, high loads, high temperatures, large stud sizes, or corrosive environments. Our multi-unit tensioning systems can make easy work of large bolted systems, and our automated tensioning systems can reduce labor and increase throughput in high-volume manufacturing applications.
