How Much Stud Do I Need Above The Nut

How much stud do I need above the nut?

Plan to have at least one (1) diameter (Example: 2″ of threads above the nut for a 2″ stud) of thread protruding above the nut. In some applications, we can get by with less than one (1) diameter, but seldom with less than three-quarters (3/4) of a diameter.
